The Cloud in My Sky

Have you heard the expression – There’s a cloud hanging over my head? I was challenged today to take that negative feeling, especially on a Monday and look at it in a positive way. Ever feel like you have a cloud hanging over your head? Let's take the enemy's ammo & turn it back on him. If you sense a cloud closing in over your life today, choose to remember the REAL cloud that we have over us - The Cloud of God's presence! (Ex. 13,14) The cloud that leads us by day and keeps us by night. We've got to give the enemy the ole reverse...he brings it in one way, wanting to dominate our thinking(and feeling!) and we have to choose to view things God's way...nothing like seeing the enemy running AWAY...with his tail tucked between his legs. Who needs blue skies when we make the connection that we need a cloud in our sky. The cloud of God's presence. May every cloud we see or encounter remind us of Him! and His presence in our lives!

We remember God parting the Red Sea for the Israelites to cross on dry ground. We remember how the Egyptians were swallowed up by that very same sea at God’s command. What was the importance of the cloud?

Today I was reading over this again and I was marveling at the events that took place before the Seas were rolled back. The Israelites looked back at one point and saw the Egyptians pursuing them. They were like, “Hey, Moses, this is great, we would have been better off to stay in Egypt than to be killed out here in the wilderness by the Egyptians.” Moses takes it to God and God is like…”Moses, here’s what you do….” In the mean time, the angel and the cloud that had been before the Israelites, leading them moved behind them. It became the buffer between them and the enemy! (God's presence is always the buffer between us and the enemy...always!!!!) When the enemy closed in and it was getting dark, the cloud did what it always did at night, it became fire. The Egyptians did NOT pursue the Israelites through the fire. On the other side of the fire, Moses is following God’s instructions, lifting up the rod and the Red Sea is rolling back while the Israelites are passing through it on dry ground.

In the morning, the Egyptians start to pursue and as we all know, they are washed away into the Sea as it comes down on them. I love the part where their chariots start to malfunction, with the wheels falling off. This of course slowed them down and gave the Israelites all the time they needed to get across the sea. God has an awesome way of confounding the enemy. These weren't just the "every day china" chariots, it was the good stuff. They pulled out the big guns. There is no limit to God's power! He's aware of the enemy's position and how close he is to you and your family. God confounds even the best that the enemy sends out against us! The timetable is in God's hands too. The enemy was in hot pursuit and was making headway, to the extent that the Israelites were in complete panic! But then God...please be of good courage today. God is not asleep, He is always on time! He knows!

Later in Exodus after the Israelites have wandered in the wilderness and have had a short memory of the awesome intervention of God, Moses talks to the Lord again. He wants to know what the next step is. In Exodus 33, God assures Moses that He has favor with Him. It is here God gives Moses the promise that His presence with go with him. Moses realizes that it is God’s presence alone that separates the Israelites and him from others. It is always God's presence in our lives that sets US apart from the rest of the world.

In 2009, right where you live, the enemy would like to use his clouds of discouragement to stop us. He would like for us to forget the amazing things God has done for us. Each of us has tasted and seen that God is good. We break a nail and somehow we easily forget. So today, let's determine with a fierce determination that we will not respond to any other cloud but the cloud of God’s presence that goes before us today….WE HAVE THE CLOUD OF GOD’S PRESENCE GOING BEFORE US! This is a cloud I want hanging over my head. As a matter of fact....I'd like to hear people say this about me - "She has her head in the cloud!" We can keep our heads in the cloud and our minds clear by being in fellowship with the Lord and through His word.

Exodus 14:10 As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the LORD. 11 They said to Moses, "Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? 12 Didn't we say to you in Egypt, 'Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians'? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!"
13 Moses answered the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14 The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still."
15 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. 16 Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. 17 I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. And I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. 18 The Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I gain glory through Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen."
19 Then the angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Israel's army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them, 20 coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long.
21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, 22 and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left.
23 The Egyptians pursued them, and all Pharaoh's horses and chariots and horsemen followed them into the sea. 24 During the last watch of the night the LORD looked down from the pillar of fire and cloud at the Egyptian army and threw it into confusion. 25 He made the wheels of their chariots come off [b] so that they had difficulty driving. And the Egyptians said, "Let's get away from the Israelites! The LORD is fighting for them against Egypt."
26 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians and their chariots and horsemen." 27 Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea went back to its place. The Egyptians were fleeing toward [c] it, and the LORD swept them into the sea. 28 The water flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen—the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived.
29 But the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left. 30 That day the LORD saved Israel from the hands of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore. 31 And when the Israelites saw the great power the LORD displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant.

Exodus 33: 12 Moses said to the LORD, "You have been telling me, 'Lead these people,' but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, 'I know you by name and you have found favor with me.' 13 If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people."
14 The LORD replied, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."
15 Then Moses said to him, "If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. 16 How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?"
