THREE PEOPLE WERE HURT IN AN ACCIDENT YESTERDAY ON LOUISIANA AVENUE AT THE I-TEN EXIT IN LAFAYETTE. TWO VEHICLES WERE INVOLVED IN THE ACCIDENT WHICH HAPPENED AT AROUND 12:30 YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. THE THREE PEOPLE HURT WERE IN A PICKUP TRUCK AND WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH MINOR INJURIES. THE TWO PEOPLE IN THE SECOND TRUCK WERE UNHARMED.





A 20-YEAR-OLD MAN WAS ARRESTED BY LAKE CHARLES POLICE ON SUNDAY AFTER HE ALLEGEDLY SHOT ANOTHER MAN DURING A ROBBERY ATTEMPT. THE VICTIM, WHO IS IN STABLE CONDITION AT A LOCAL HOSPITAL, IDENTIFIED SHAQUILLE ELLIS OF LAKE CHARLES AS THE MAN WHO ROBBED AND SHOT HIM. THE CHARGES AGAINST ELLIS INCLUDE ATTEMPTED FIRST DEGREEE MURDER AND ARMED ROBBERY. HIS BOND HAS BEEN SET AT ONE-POINT-2-5 MILLION DOLLARS.





FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS HAVE BEEN SET FOR THE MAYOR OF ERATH. JULIE DARCY HAS THE DETAILS.





LAFAYETTE FIREFIGHTERS ARE HOSTING A 9-11 STAIR CLIMB AT THE CHASE TOWERS ON JEFFERSON STREET TO HONOR THE HUNDREDS OF NEW YORK FIREFIGHTERS WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN 2001. OPELOUSAS POLICE ARE SEARCHING FOR 22-YEAR-OLD KENDAL PAYNE, WHO IS THE ALLEGED GUNMAN IN A SHOOTING SATURDAY. IT HAPPENED SATURDAY AT THE INTERSECTION OF BLANCHARD AND ACADEMY STREET IN OPELOUSAS. PAYNE IS ACCUSED OF SHOOTING 30-YEAR-OLD DEMON THIBODEAUX AND 34-YEAR-OLD LAKESHA RANDLE, BOTH OF OPELOUSAS. POLICE SAY THIBODEAUX WAS THE INTENDED TARGET AND RANDLE WAS HIT BY A STRAY BULLET.







In Marksville, there has been a change of leadership in the Tunica-Biloxi Indian Tribe. Marshall Pierite (pih EHR' ih TEH') has been named tribal chairman, replacing Earl Barby, who died July 31. Pierite had been vice chairman for the past nine years. Barbry was tribal chairman for 35 years.





An engineer battalion from the Fort Polk Army base that has been clearing land for a small arms range at the National Guard's Camp Beauregard in Pineville has uncovered a World War II-era tank. Richard Moran, the curator for the Camp Beauregard Louisiana Military Maneuvers Museum, tells The Town Talk that the tank is either an M2A4 or an M3 Stuart tank. Moran says it is one of the earliest tanks mass produced for World War II.
