Thought Traffic Controllers

How many thoughts can one mind hold? Think of the activity at a busy airport with planes taking off & landing. When my feet hit the floor in the morning, or even when my eyes pop open, thoughts start taking off & landing. We live recklessly when we don’t regulate what is flying in & out of our thoughts. Each of us is our own air traffic controller. God’s Word is the tool that regulates the flow of thought traffic.

For a couple of days I have had the phrase – “Rob You Blind” on my mind…The enemy does indeed want to rob us blind. In John 10:10, Jesus makes it clear that the enemy’s goal is to steal, kill and destroy. I believe the only way he can truly steal from us is when we are blind or asleep, either way our eyes are shut or we don’t see clearly.

Any obstruction (circumstance) to blur or distort our spiritual vision or sight and he is on his way to a pilfering spree in our lives. The enemy does not have to conquer Rome in a day. He is satisfied to chip away at our freedom in Christ, taking one area or territory at a time, until he rules our thought life and we are filled with fear and unbelief.

At the root of almost every struggle I face, is faith/ belief or fear/unbelief. We operate and conduct the business of life based on what we believe. Our actions tell on us. It’s no secret that the enemy has launched a smear campaign against the God of the universe, the one we call Abba, Father. So I equate blindness with deception. If the enemy can persuade us that God is not who His Word says He is, he can impair our vision and rob us blind. He is a professional liar, the father of lies, a con artist and a destroyer.

So what are we to do? Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the WORD of GOD! As I was doing math with my son last night…another phrase came to mind. DIVIDE and CONQUER! We know from Hebrews 4:12 that the word of God is living & active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Whether we want to be in this battle or not really doesn’t matter…the war is on…maybe you’re a lover and not a fighter. That can work for you, because if you love God’s Word, it will make you a fighter. It will put a sword in your hand, and hearing the word will bring faith which acts as our shield. The Word divides between the soul and spirit, between the truth and a lie. We sort out the truth from the lies through the Word. If we will accurately divide the Word, we will conquer. If we wait until we get to church Sunday or Wednesday for the Word, we may have a case of the enemy setting up camp, starting to build a stronghold. Lies bind us, but the truth sets us free. If we are passive, we won’t challenge the lies, but through inaction, we will allow and permit them to bring us into bondage.

They say a picture is worth a 1000 words. We need a mental picture of this warfare, of the thoughts flying in and out of our minds. (Some taking us completely out of our minds.) We need to take responsibility as Thought Traffic Controllers. Our training and equipping come through God’s Word which gives us clear and distinct sight. His Word divides the truth from a lie, so we can conquer!

Father I pray today that as your children we would fully grasp what provision lies in Your Word. May we confound the enemy and overpower him through Your Word. Make us hungry Lord for battle, so we are not bumps on a log waiting around for the train to glory…make us useful for Your purposes. May each of us surrender our gifts and abilities to You and may we more importantly surrender our hearts to You. As the enemy tries to drive a wedge between us and You, may Your Word be the boundary that separates us from him and brands us as Your own. May every threat of the enemy be silenced in Jesus Name and through the mighty force and veracity of Your Word. Thank You for equipping us for service in Your kingdom on this earth. May Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus name….Amen!

1 John 5:4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith.

But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.
Matthew 24:42-44
1 Peter 1:23 (English Standard Version)
Since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God;

2 Timothy 2:15 (New King James Version)
15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. Rms 10:17

Eph 6: 17 -and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,
